My curiosity about people and my feeling of connection to them began during early sun-filled days in Nova Scotia. Summers were spent at our family camp on the South Shore amid loving, talkative, interesting aunts and uncles and fun-loving cousins. Days were filled with games and outdoor exploration.  Barefoot and free, the beach and ocean were my playground. I was truly connected to nature in the most organic way possible. It was an idyllic existence, one which has shaped and coloured my perceptions throughout the years. Though I now live on the West Coast, the East Coast will always be my true home, the place where I started my journey and my interest in conversation, connection and communication.

In my late teens I moved to Toronto to "find myself" or at the very least find a career. It was not an easy time by any means, but the city offered me endless opportunities to explore what I wanted to do. My journey led me to the advertising executive world, which offered more interesting insights into human nature. From there, I took the logical step into marketing. During those working years I realized that my innate ability to work with people was taking shape and I clearly saw the need for more, and more effective, communication.

Luckily, I was offered the chance to delve into internal communications and corporate culture. I became fascinated with how systems and people worked together in organizations, how people “got in their own way”. There was obviously more to people that what was revealed or talked about. The movement under the surface was worth exploring!

Those were exciting times, where I took courses and read every book I could get my hands on and I found my way to The Haven. I’ve always been fascinated with body language, postures, gestures and how people moved. In retrospect, I can see how choosing to follow my curiosity and stepping into my interest provided the necessary training ground for coaching. This has become my life's work and passion - helping others to learn about themselves, connect more deeply in their bodies, and achieve their potential.

My education path led me to become a facilitator in my work. I wanted to work with people in a way that promoted body and mind awareness, choice and self-responsibility. I have worked with leaders, teams, small business owners, and people in career transition. Coaching was a natural progression of my deep desire to help.

I love movement! It is my philosophy and my practice. Years ago, looking for a form of exercise that would bring me joy, I took up Nia, a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and the healing arts.  It is through this practice that I began to plug into my own body intelligence and learn to love movement. Nia and other somatic practices have helped me grow personally and professionally and have led me to my offering in the world – Take The Next Step Coaching.  I continue to explore and improve my body/mind flexibility, agility, mobility, stability, and strength in all facets of my being. I find joy and aliveness in my body that I never dreamed was possible. Nia helps me dance my way through life with more ease and joy!.
